Both the Sony DSC-RX100M III & II Cyber-shot Digital Still Cameras are super high-quality cameras, packed with features, in a nice easy to handle compact body.
The Sony DSC-RX100M III Cyber-shot is the more recent and up-to-date model over the DSC-RX100M II camera, and as you would expect comes with a higher price tag. For the extra $$s with the Sony DSC-RX100M III you are getting a built-in SVGA OLED pop-up viewfinder which the II doesn’t have, along with an up-dated processor, a higher bit-rate video recording capability, an ND filter, and several other improvements in features and build – just take a look at the table below to view all the main differences between these 2 cameras.
Both the Sony DSC-RX100M III & II Cyber-shot Cameras feature a 3” extra-fine LCD display for clearer viewing even in bright sunlight (tilt degree angle varies between the 2 cameras, see the table below for differences).
Both Cyer-shot cameras offer the ability to instantly connect to smartphones and tablets over WiFi and NFC (near field communication) technology.

Both the Sony DSC-RX100M III & II Cyber-shot cameras are really impressive compact digital cameras that are easy to use and carry around, while producing super quality images and videos.
The Sony DSC-RX100M III is unique with its retractable pop up viewfinder, something which is hard to find on a compact digital camera. EVF is usually only found on the larger bulkier cameras, so this is a real bonus feature to have on such a small camera. The higher resolution video XAVC S format on this compact camera is also hard to find on a camera of this size. Couple this with the updated processor, a more sophisticated “lock on” autofocus system and a faster and wider lens than the mark II, the Sony DSC-RX100M III is hard to beat. You’re definitely getting a lot for your money with this camera.

If you don’t want to spend the extra $$s on the Sony DSC-RX100M III, then the Sony DSC-RX100M II Cyber-shot Digital Camera is still a good buy, and the extra reach in the zoom lens’ focal range (up to 100mm as opposed to 70mm of the mark III) may appeal more to some people.

See what other customers who have bought the either the Sony DSC-RX100M III or Sony DSC-RX100M II Cyber-shot Digital Still Camera have to say about them:
J.L.:
“The Sony DSC-RX100M III Cyber-shot is the best camera for point-and-shoot, it really is good at everything. If you’re good at taking photos, this camera will make you GREAT, if you’re bad at taking photos, this camera will make you GOOD! It’s not the cheapest camera, but it is worth it. It’s easy to use, has great low-light capabilities and has virtually everything you need on it including a viewfinder, WIFI and NFC. Personally, this camera gives me the best of both words – high-end images in a compact point-and-shoot size camera. I love being able to send pictures to my computer or phone wirelessly.”
Z.J.:
“The zoom range on the Sony DSC-RX100M III Cyber-shot Digital Still Camera matches the range typically used by professionals, so you know it’s a well tested range. The larger aperture means you don’t have to worry about so much about available light even when zooming in. The EVF is excellent and a great feature to have, especially when working in bright conditions. It’s such a great camera, I virtually replaced my entire system camera kit with this thing. It’s as good as or even better than any film camera ever was. I love the size of this camera, its capabilities and the excellent image performance it gives.”
J.W.:
“The Sony DSC-RX100M II Cyber-shot Digital Still Camera is incredibly compact and produces extremely high quality images. This is the best camera for travel and vacation. I would say the JPG images with this camera equal or even exceed those from full-frame DSLRs. You can also shoot in RAW and the video quality is very good too! The 1” sensor allows for a good depth of field. The batteries seem to last quite a while which is always a good thing!”
