Canon’s impressive image stabilization technology that’s incorporated into many of its cameras and camcorders, is now being introduced into its binoculars.  The Canon 12x36 Image Stabilization II Binoculars features Canon’s optical image stabilizer for clear shake-free viewing without a tripod.

How does Canon’s Image Stabilization (IS) Work?

Shake-free viewing with traditional high-magnification binoculars have in the past been impossible without the use of a tripod.  Now with Canon’s IS technology, this problem is eliminated.

Canon’s IS system uses a special Vari-Angle Prism (VAP) that is located between the objective lens group and the porro prism on each side of the binoculars.  A detection system activates the IS mechanism within thousandths of a second of the binoculars being moved from their optical axis by vibration.  The Vari-Angle Prism alters its shape to refract or bend the light path to compensate for the vibration.  This continuous adjustment of the prism effectively suppresses image shake to maintain a continuous steady image.

How the Canon 12x36 Image Stabilization II Binoculars have been Improved

Canon has made several improvements to its 12x36 IS II Binoculars over its predecessor:

·         Improved objective lens assembly makes these binoculars smaller and lighter than their previous model – approx. 10% smaller and 26% lighter in fact.
·         Improved reduction in power consumption gives a massive 270% increase in battery life – by up to 4 hours (2x AA alkaline batteries) or up to 12 hours of continuous use when using lithium AA batteries.

Besides the high magnification and image stabilization, the powerful Canon 12x36 IS II Binoculars delivers a wide extra-bright field of view thanks to its multi-coated lens which includes Doublet Field-Flattener to give excellent edge-to-edge sharpness and contrast, while Canon’s Super Spectra Coating helps to reduce flare.  The low-reflectance exterior coupled with low-gloss front covers help to avoid disturbing birds and other animals when out nature-watching.

There’s so much more to these binoculars.  Let’s take a look at the features in detail that the Canon 12x36 Image Stabilization II Binoculars has to offer:
