iRobot Roomba 770 versus Roomba 650 Robotic Vacuum Cleaners, Compared

The iRobot Roomba 770 and Roomba 650 are impressive robotic vacuum cleaners, picking up dust, debris and pet hair, and suitable for all floor types.

You can schedule both the iRobot Roomba 770 and 650 for preset vacuuming up to 7x per week or simply press “Clean” and let the vacuum cleaning robot do its work.  Both units work on all floor types, auto adjusting as it goes along for carpet, tile, hardwood, laminate and more.

The iRobot Roomba 770 and 650 feature a 3-stage cleaning system that uses a combination of agitation, brushing and suction to pick up dust, debris and pet hair.  In addition there is a spinning side brush that gently cleans wall edges and into corners.

The iRobot Roomba 770 has advanced cleaning power over the 650, with its Dirt Detect Series II persistent pass cleaning capabilities (the Roomba 650 features Dirt Detect Series I).  With its optical and acoustic sensors, the Roomba 770 identifies dirtier areas, detecting high concentrations of dirt, dust and pet hair, and performs focused cleaning on those areas where it’s needed most (removes 98% of debris!).

There is also a difference in the filters used between these two iRobots, with the Roomba 770 using dual HEPA filters (giving the added benefit of air cleaning and ideal for allergy sufferers), while the Roomba 650 uses an AeroVac filter to help capture fine dust and debris.

Both the iRobot Roomba 770 and 650 robotic vacuum cleaners have a low profile design so can navigate under most furniture, beds and kickboards.  There is a slight difference in the overall dimensions between these two Roombas with the 770 measuring approximately 3.4” tall x 13.9” diameter while the 650 measures approximately 3.6” tall x 13.4” diameter.

Utilizing iAdapt Responsive Navigation, both the iRobot Roomba 770 and 650 use sensors to navigate and adapt to your changing home, cleaning around clutter and avoiding stairs.  The iRobot’s Virtual Wall Technology keeps the Roomba in the rooms you want cleaned and out of the rooms you don’t want cleaned.  2 Virtual Walls are included with the Roomba 770 while only 1 is included with the 650.

See what other customers who have bought either the iRobot Roomba 770 or Roomba 650 Robotic Vacuum Cleaners have to say about them:

L.P.:
“The Roomba 770 is super convenient and great for a busy family with pets.  We set the timer and it wakes up and vacuums daily.”

D.B.:
“The iRobot Roomba is good for a robotic vacuum cleaner and works as intended.  We’ve had the 770 for around a year now.  It starts at the time we programmed into it and goes all around the house.  We’ve had the odd hiccup where it can’t find its way, but that’s usually because of chairs or changes we’ve made from its path.  We have a dog and this Roomba cleans up the hair and debris.  Good product overall and helps to keep the house clean.”

A.C.:
“We were amazed at how much the Roomba 650 picks up.  It’s a great time saver.  We have a long-haired cat who constantly sheds hair and this thing picks up a ton.  Instead of me having to vacuum every day, I now go a week with the Roomba picking up the slack in between.  It has occasionally got stuck under a low table, but it has no trouble maneuvering over rugs.  We love it!”

K.R.:
“The iRobot 650 is a great vacuum cleaner – just Roomba-tize your house first (e.g. no power cords or small items on the floor).  This unit handles our tile floor and rugs with ease. (I did add some weatherstripping under one side of the rugs so that the rug was lifted just enough for the Roomba not to get stuck).   It did get stuck under the couch a few times.  Overall, this is a great machine – I should have bought one years ago!”

N.B.  Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe use of robotic vacuum cleaners.
