The Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier features a 3-stage air cleaning process to effectively remove airborne allergens from your home, including pollen, dust, pet dander, mold spores, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), cooking and tobacco smoke, and other household odors and allergens (as small as 0.3 microns).
The Winix 5500-2 is ideal for asthma and allergy sufferers, giving you fresher more breathable indoor air.
The Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier is designed to effectively clean the air in medium to large sized rooms up to 360 sq ft. It replaces the widely popular 5500 model with a few modifications including a sleeker design, quieter operation, and up-dated control panel with a Timer function that the 5500 didn't have.
The Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier’s 3-stage filter system utilizes an Odor Reducing Carbon Filter, a True HEPA Filter, and PlasmaWave Technology:
1. Odor Reducing Carbon Filter

2. True HEPA Filter
Capturing 99.97% of airborne pollutants, the True HEPA Filter removes pollen, dust, mold spores, pet dander and other airborne allergens as small as 0.3 microns from the air.
3. PlasmaWave Technology
The Winix PlasmaWave Technology attacks airborne pollutants at the molecular level, effectively neutralizing airborne viruses, bacteria, gases, chemical vapors, and other indoor odors. With the Winix 5500-2 you can choose to turn this option on or off and you’ll be pleased to know that there’s NO ozone with Winix’s PlasmaWave Technology.
The Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier features 4 fan speeds – low, medium, high or turbo. The low setting is whisper quiet and can be used for silent operation at night time in Sleep Mode. The medium and high settings are still fairly quiet, while the power of the turbo setting is louder as you would expect.
Winix 5500-2's control panel |
The Winix 5500-2’s control panel is straightforward and easy to use, and includes a Timer for 1, 4 or 8 hours, as well as a light sensor, air quality visual indicator, filter check and filter change indicator. In addition, the Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier comes with a Remote Control.
As you would expect from a high-quality Air Cleaner, the Winix 5500-2 is CUL Listed, AHAM CADR certified, CARB certified and Energy Star certified.

See what other customers who have bought the Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier have to say about it:
P.B.:
“I use the Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier primarily to clean the air of pet odors (litter related smells). It’s easy and intuitive to operate and has a quick-start guide attached to the unit itself so you don’t have to read the manual to get started. I love the Sleep mode which shuts off the unit’s lights and turns the fan to low. White noise doesn’t bother me but lights do when I’m trying to sleep! This air purifier has 3 filters: a large mesh weave that’s washable, a carbon filter that’s also washable, and a True HEPA filter that’s 99.97% efficient. The 2nd filter you’re meant to wash every 3 months and replace once a year. The HEPA filter is meant to be replaced once a year too. With regards to energy use, this unit is Energy Star certified. The air purifier itself weighs around 20 lbs so is easy to relocate to different rooms. I’ve not used an air purifier before, so I can’t compare this to any other model, but it definitely makes a difference for what I’m using it for. For an air purifier at this price point, I would definitely recommend it.”
A.L.:
“The Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier has a surprisingly small footprint – I slipped it in between my bed and the wall easily. We live in a wooded area and get a lot of allergens and pollen in our house and am looking forward to using this to get some cleaner night air. The fan has 4 settings – the lowest is whisper quiet while the loudest is like a small jet engine, but it does move some air! You could even use this with the turbo setting to circulate air like a small fan. I like the Winix 5500-2’s Sleep Mode – it quiets the fan and turns out the LED lights very fast. Overall, this is a nice well-rounded air purifier.”
